Ontario Soars at Farnborough International Airshow

Province supports $21.4 million investment by Ontario’s Cyclone Manufacturing while showcasing homegrown aerospace sector abroad

Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, made the announcement in the U.K. at the Farnborough International Airshow, where he led a delegation to promote the province’s strengths in aerospace technology and presented Ontario as a gateway for investment, innovation and advanced manufacturing in North America. The Ontario government hosted a pavilion at the airshow showcasing 10 companies and one municipality.

Through the Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Competitiveness stream of Ontario’s Regional Development Program, the province is investing $1.5 million to help Cyclone invest in new technologies, including robotic assembly. The project will enable the company to undertake processing work that is currently performed outside of Canada, create 60 new jobs and provide upskilling for 100 employees at Cyclone’s four facilities in Mississauga and Milton.

And we’re proud to support this tremendous investment by Cyclone, which will help to grow and strengthen Ontario’s aerospace manufacturing capacity. Our government will continue to support local businesses and promote Ontario’s leading industries on the world stage to help create good jobs at home.”

Cyclone Manufacturing is a provider of complex aerostructures and structural assemblies for major aerospace companies around the world.

Aerospace is a key component of Ontario’s advanced manufacturing sector. It directly employs more than 21,500 people across more than 200 companies, and an additional 17,200 indirectly. Ontario’s aerospace industry is the second largest in Canada, representing close to a quarter of all Canadian activity. The province is home to a globally renowned landing-gear cluster, as well as major global aerospace companies.

The Farnborough International Airshow is among the industry’s foremost annual events. It provided an opportunity to demonstrate that Ontario is open for business and open for jobs. Ontario companies have connected with potential customers from around the world to promote Ontario’s key strengths in aircraft final assembly, avionics, aerostructures and landing gear, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), engines, satellites and spacecraft.
