For immediate release                                                                                             April 30, 2024

April 30, 2024 (Mississauga, ON) – Last week, representatives of the Mississauga Board of Trade attended the Ontario Chamber of Commerce AGM & Convention in Timmins, Ontario. Represented by our 2024 Board Chair, Sameer Sharma, MBOT’s Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations, Brett McDermott, and MBOT President & CEO, Trevor McPherson, our MBOT team championed the interests of our MBOT members and the wider Mississauga business community.

We are extremely proud to share that the Mississauga Board of Trade has also been awarded the 2024 Outstanding Advocacy Campaign Award by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. This prestigious award recognizes the extensive work that MBOT did to advocate for the legal retail sale of cannabis in Ontario’s third largest municipality. We would like highlight MBOT’s Brett McDermott for his dedicated efforts and to his predecessor, Councillor Brad Butt, for laying an advocacy foundation for us on this issue.

Finally, MBOT reps Sharma, McPherson, and McDermott were also pleased to earn the OCC delegates’ support for two resolutions. The first resolution advocates for the growth of Ontario’s life sciences industry, not only in Mississauga, but province-wide. The second resolution advocates for the preservation of employment lands near airports. While important to Toronto Pearson International Airport’s growth – and the jobs and economic growth that comes with an airport, this is vital to airports in smaller communities as well.
