- Purchasing 69 new specialized buses capable of carrying up to six wheelchair passengers in Brampton, Mississauga and Caledon, and;
- Making it easier to pay fares across Peel Region’s TransHelp fleet by implementing the PRESTO electronic fare collection system and installing up to 145 portable, tablet-based, electronic payment units.
“When communities are more accessible, everyone benefits. People with disabilities can take part in everyday life, and businesses gain access to a larger pool of talent and customers,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility. “These invaluable projects demonstrate the importance of working together to remove barriers to accessibility. Making Ontario accessible and inclusive is a journey that takes collaboration between many partners, including businesses, communities and all levels of government.”
“Modernizing transit in communities across Ontario is a priority for our government,” said Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure. “That’s why we are investing close to $3 million to enhance public transit in Peel Region. Our investment will help improve accessible public transit by upgrading the bus fleet and fare-payment system, making it easier for people to go to the doctor, the pharmacy and grocery store.”
“Making it easier for families to travel in, out, and around Brampton is a priority of our government,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction, and Member of Provincial Parliament for Brampton South.
“Improving public transit accessibility by expanding the Peel TransHelp fleet with more energy efficient buses will help keep Brampton moving safely and efficiently for all who call our Region home,” added Amarjot Sandhu, Member of Provincial Parliament for Brampton West.
“The Government of Canada is ensuring families in Mississauga and across Peel Region have safe and accessible public transit to get to work, school, and appointments,” said Iqra Khalid, Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erin Mills. “Our investment will modernize the payment systems to make TransHelp buses more accessible for riders, expand Peel’s fleet of lower-emissions propane vehicles, and build a stronger and more inclusive community for everyone.”

It’s an example of all levels of government working together to directly benefit the community by ensuring residents with disabilities can continue to travel without barriers.”
