Mississauga Board of Trade Congratulates GE Canada and the Province of Ontario

September 1, 2016: Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) wishes to congratulate GE Canada and the Province of Ontario on the groundbreaking of the new “Brilliant Factory” in Welland, Ontario that will strengthen Ontario has a hub of advanced manufacturing.

GE Canada’s head office is located in Mississauga, Ontario and projects like this help support the Mississauga operations as well as those in Welland.

Expected to begin production in early 2018, the facility will produce energy-efficient engines and other components that are used all over the world. The Welland plant will be among the most advanced in GE’s global operations, and the first of its kind in Canada.

Ontario helped secure this project by providing a single point of contact for GE when the company was deciding where in Canada to make this major investment. Other companies will benefit from the same service model when the province launches the Strategic Investments Office (SIO) this fall.

The SIO will provide companies looking to invest in Ontario a one-window approach, offering a seamless range of services such as help selecting a suitable site, training workers, and fast-tracking provincial and municipal permits and licences.

The government is also enhancing Ontario’s appeal as a place to grow a business by investing $2.7 billion over 10 years through the Jobs and Prosperity Fund (JPF). Ontario is providing GE a conditional grant of $26.55 million through the JPF, leveraging an overall investment of almost $240 million.

“GE Canada has been a very strong supporter of MBOT over many years and a real corporate leader in Mississauga,” said David Wojcik, President & CEO, MBOT.  “Announcements like this are good news for GE in all of Ontario.”
