MBOT Calls for Immediate Return of Business Supports
as Public Health and Business Restrictions are Reintroduced

(Mississauga – December 17, 2021) – The Mississauga Board of Trade (MBOT) is concerned about the impacts that today’s announcement by the Province of Ontario about new indoor capacity restrictions will have on many businesses, at a time when they are least able to absorb additional losses.

“We fully appreciate that the Government of Ontario must react quickly to dramatically rising COVID-19 case counts and the threat that the Omicron variant poses to both individuals and the healthcare system.  However, we must also acknowledge that the ability of many businesses to survive yet another period of restrictions will rely significantly on the return of non-repayable financial supports from Ottawa and Queen’s Park,” said Trevor McPherson, President and CEO of MBOT.  “Governments must rapidly bring back full and proper financial assistance programs to support these businesses that have already been hanging on by a thread.”

The MBOT stands firm with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and fully supports the OCC’s reaction to the announcement made today by the Ford Government.  The statement may be accessed through the following link: Chamber Calls for Strategic Plan and Enhanced Supports | OCC
